New Child Care Center Taking Shape

After more than 18 months of fundraising and years of planning, Condon’s new Child Care and Early Education Center is beginning to take shape. Contractor Rusty Rutherford and his crew recently set the trusses on the 4,000-square-foot Center, which is located across Highway 206 from Condon High School.

The facility is designed to meet the needs of children and families in the community with increased classroom and play space, a fully-equipped kitchen and cafeteria, improved parking and drop-off areas, and a better work environment for teachers and staff.

Construction is moving along on schedule and is expected to be completed in about 6-8 weeks. However, to reduce disruptions to students and families, Condon Child Care staff will wait to move until the Christmas holidays, when the Center is generally more quiet.

Although funding for the building has been secured, the Condon Child Care is continuing to raise money for age-appropriate playground materials and structures. To make an in-kind or financial contribution, please contact Jennifer Bold at condonchildcare@ortelco.net or (541) 384-4737.

Condon Child Care Receives $305,000 Grant from Ford Family Foundation

The Condon Child Care has received a $305,000 grant from the Ford Family Foundation Fund of The Oregon Community Foundation, Anne Kubisch to help fund a new Child Care and Early Education Center. The Foundation’s Board approved the grant in early February. With the funding, the Condon Child Care has raised more than $650,000 of the project’s estimated $800,000 cost.

“Thanks to these funds, the finish line is now in sight,” said Jennifer Bold, Executive Director of the Condon Child Care. “We’re grateful to the Ford Family Foundation for their tremendous vote of confidence in our Center and ongoing support for rural communities.”

The 4,000-square-foot Center will be located on the now vacant block across Highway 206 from the Condon High School. The facility will be built specifically to meet the needs of children and families in the community with increased classroom and play space, a fully-equipped kitchen and cafeteria, improved parking and drop-off areas, and a better work environment for teachers and staff.

The Ford Family Foundation is a private, non-profit foundation located in Roseburg, Oregon. The organization makes grants to public charities predominantly benefiting communities in rural Oregon and Siskiyou County, California.
